Romantikus balett. Giselle. Adolphe Adam

Balett Giselle. Adolphe Adam

A tizenkilencedik század húszas éveitől kezdődően új áramlat érvénesült a balettben: a romantika. A barokk eposzok és tragédiák fennkölt hősei és istenei helyett népmondák és népmesék parasztjai közé keveredett jótékony tündérek, vészthozó, titokzatos lények: szilfidek, lidércek elevenedtek meg a balettszínpadon. Ragyogó palota-termek helyett holdfényes völgyeket, titokzatos erdőket, kies mesetájakat ábrázoltak a díszletek, és súlyos barokk kosztümök helyett lenge tüllszoknyát és szitakötő-szárnyakat viseltek a táncosnők.
